Introduction

Self-awareness is the conscious ability to recognize and understand your own emotions, thoughts, values, behaviours and how they affect both yourself and others.

Self-awareness is one of the key components of emotional intelligence.

It involves:

  • Internal awareness (knowing your strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, motives and emotional triggers.)
  • External awareness (understanding how others perceive you and the impact of your actions on them.)
